Riding a Boner

We’ve picked up a few new recruits and they seem to be working out just fine, though I have to admit I miss a lot of people who aren’t raiding with us anymore. Things went well this week, so well in fact that after Tuesday night we had a new boss down in Heroic mode and nothing left in ICC except Blood Wing and Lich King. So, last night we went to Ruby Sanctum in pretty good spirits, a few people didn’t make it though. So we were forced to grab some pinch hitters from the bench. Even so, we made it through RS pretty quickly and made our way to ICC. Princes and BQ died quickly, but the loot was nothing to write home about. Finally, it was time to mess with the big baddie himself, the Lich King.

Now, we’ve killed him in normal mode for a while now, but with no other heroic bosses to down it was time to get a peak at what he’s like on Heroic. I’ve gotta say, the guy hits like a truck full of brick shit-houses.

We pulled him four times in Heroic to get peoples feet wet, Shadow Traps of course were a problem initially. And it became very apparent how healing intensive this fight actually is very quickly. Disc priests are major heroes on this fight, as well as Holy Paladins. On our best attempt we got LK down to about 80% before things went all pear shaped, people were handling traps better by this point. But instead of banging our heads against him all night we decided to kill him in regular and call it early.

Right about now you might ask yourself, “Why call it early when we were making such good progress”? Well, for starters we hadn’t hit the hard parts yet and we were having some issues already. We will get him, but first we could do with some gear farming. As I said earlier, we’ve got several new raiders with us. After a couple of weeks they should have better gear and will have time to iron out their performance as well as learning to mesh well with our raiders and our way of doing things. Of course, there’s also the fact we were missing a couple of key players. Specifically we were a little low on the healing front with one of our Holy Paladins being absent last night. But probably most importantly, morale.

I think it’s important that we ended on a high note this week. It would be easy to be blinded by the smell of blood on LK, but failing over and over again could quickly overshadow the weeks earlier success. It’s one of those situations you have to be very careful about. Morale will kill a guild more surely than any raid boss. That said, I’m very proud of our crew. We did great last night and all week honestly. At this pace I’m sure we’ll be banging out heads against HLK very soon. It will be a bloody battle that will last throughout the night until that magic moment when everything falls into place – and we all die… followed shortly by the death of the Lich King of course.

The Drake farming continues, as another batch of guildies completed the ICC 10 Meta, including yours truly. As the picture shows, riding a boner is srs business.

Before I go I’d like to thank my guildmates for all their hard work, both in 25 and beyond. You might think that with Cataclysm looming there’s not much to do, but on the contrary we’re keeping busy. Plans are in place to farm the few legendaries we don’t already have to finish the We Are Legendary meta, as well as take care of unfinished business (like the ICC drakes). Everyone’s really been positive lately and pulling together, so for that I want to say to all of my friends at Face on Fire, thank you.

Whew, what a week. That’s it for me (for now) more news as it develops…
