		<description><![CDATA[For those of you who are working on the Insane in the Membrane Feat of Strength, I am very sorry&#8230; BIG NEWS Blizzard made an announcement today that&#8217;s well, it&#8217;s pissed some people off. Bashiok wrote: Insane in the Membrane is a feat of strength, not an achievement. Feats are things that you can&#8217;t be guaranteed to complete, which is why they&#8217;re feats and not achievements. Most of them are actually now impossible to complete, and this feat will join a long list of &#8220;you had to be there&#8221; moments in WoW time. The feat isn&#8217;t being removed of course, those who have it will retain it, however; some of the requirements are, so it will no longer be able to be completed by anyone who has not already done so. It&#8217;s possible that in some very specific situations where someone has completed the reputations which are being removed, but not others that will still be in the game, that it can still be completed. But it&#8217;s something we&#8217;re waiting for clarity on, and will let you know as soon as we do. Original Post That&#8217;s right, one of the most time consuming Feats/Achievements in the game is going away. I myself have went through this Feat, and it takes a lot of time. It&#8217;s not something you really &#8220;want&#8221; to marathon your way through if you can avoid it. But, Bashiok has essentially given everyone with an interest in completing the achievement a deadline&#8230; get it done by December 7th or don&#8217;t get it done at all. So, What&#8217;s the Problem? See, this wouldn&#8217;t be as big a deal if eleven month ago (almost to the day) another Blizzard rep hadn&#8217;t given players the assurance on the EU servers that the Feat would remain, and that players shouldn&#8217;t feel rushed to complete it before Cataclysm. Ancilorn wrote: Just for clarity, Insane in the Membrane will not be removed in Cataclysm. We can only confirm this one for you, but since it&#8217;s undoubtedly one of the most brain-melting achievements, we thought it nice to let you know that you don&#8217;t have to rush to have this done before the expansion. Original Post Myself, I was actually planning on completing the Feat again on my Mage. Materials (The Pristines and Librams for example) are a real pain to gather, and right now selling DMF decks just isn&#8217;t going to be enough to pay for the other materials. So, it just didn&#8217;t seem like it was worth working on it till after Cataclysm. But now? It just isn&#8217;t going to happen. And for those of us who held off on the word of a blue post, it&#8217;s easy to feel a bit betrayed. First, this is not about dwelling on the negative. And it shouldn&#8217;t be, but acknowledging your failures is as important (if not more so) than celebrating your successes. Understanding mistakes and how to deal with them is an important part of being a good leader in any arena. There&#8217;s a few key points to making mistakes that I want to share before going any further: Learning From Mistakes 1. Acceptance &#8211; You absolutely have to accept that it happened and there&#8217;s not a damned thing you can do about it. 2. What caused the mistake and how can you avoid making that mistake in the future? 3. Are there similar possible issues that can be avoided? 4. What have you done to ensure this doesn&#8217;t happen again? Taken in this context a mistake can be a valuable tool, especially in business. For example, a security flaw could be exposed that could &#8220;potentially&#8221; protect the company from losing huge sums of money. The same applies to Goblins, we take what we do seriously. And though SRS Business is by no means a Fortune 500 company, I do try my best to learn from my failures. Now that I&#8217;ve beat around the bush, let&#8217;s get to my own slice of fail&#8230; My Biggest Mistake Back in March I made what should have been the deal of a lifetime, I bought out a TON of items for cheap. Literally stacks of gems, eternals, ores, multiple Argent Tournament pets, etc and all for a pittance. And the result? A 3 day Suspension&#8230; No deal is worth losing your account over (for any length of time), but greed got the better of me. 		<description><![CDATA[The patch is imminent, conventional wisdom says it will drop tomorrow. Assuming it does, are you prepared? There&#8217;s a lot of changes that you need to be aware of if you&#8217;re going to keep tanking 4.0 and beyond. I&#8217;m working on an update to my tanking guide, but if you&#8217;re reading this you need some answers now. I&#8217;m going to try to help&#8230; The New Rune System: The Elephant in the Room The fundamentals of Death Knights have changed, before anything else we need to discuss the new resource mechanics. Runes and Runic Power have always been our resources, however resource mechanics for Runes especially have been changed in this patch (as many of you probably already know). How exactly this works is this, you start off with your six runes (2 Blood, 2 Frost, 2 Unholy) as usual. As these are used, one of each will begin to refresh. Abilities like Empower Rune Weapon and Runic Empowerment can (and will) bring you back to 2 of each Rune, but in general expect to have fewer options at a given time. To compensate for this new limit to resources several abilities have had their Rune costs lowered (Death and Decay for example down from 3 Runes to 1), while some abilities have had their Rune costs removed entirely (Vampiric Blood). With our Rune sets being cut effectively in half you&#8217;ll be relying more heavily on Runic Power, that said Scent of Blood becomes a much more attractive talent since you&#8217;ll want to fill as much dead space in your rotation with Rune Strike spam as possible. Which brings me to my next point&#8230; The Incredible Shrinking Talent Tree For progression, you&#8217;ll want a spec like this, this gives you some flexibility and a lot of defensive cooldowns. If you&#8217;re looking for something a little more threat based, I would recommend this spec. In either spec there&#8217;s a few discretionary points available, my suggestion would be stick with the Unholy tree for excess points, either Virulence or Epidemic for those last two points at 80. Note: For those wondering, I do not include Abomination&#8217;s Might for two reasons. One, the strength bonus while nice isn&#8217;t really enough to warrant the talent on it&#8217;s own imo. Secondly, there are several other classes that can provide the buff. And as I am a 25 man raider, they will provide the buff. TLDR version redundancy is redundant, the points are better spent elsewhere. Glyphs With 4.0 we &#8220;learn&#8221; our glyphs rather than consume them, that means we&#8217;re able to switch out glyphs on the fly for specific fights making us a bit more versatile. Additionally we now have access to nine glyphs instead of six (Prime, Major, Minor). That said, our options are still a bit limited. For Blood, this is your best bet. 		<description><![CDATA[The Big News Recently Blizzard announced plans to trim some loose branches from the talent trees in an attempt to overhaul the trees altogether. They also reduced the number of talents a character has available and how quickly we gain them . At level 85 each character has 41 Talent points to spend &#8211; the kicker is you absolutely HAVE to spend 31 in your tree of choice. No more Hybrid specs&#8230; Increasing Options by Severely Limiting Them With less total points to spend each talent point becomes more valuable. This will presumably be a challenge to developers when it comes to balance, but also in that we need to have meaningful options. The big promise with this change is that we&#8217;ll be losing a lot of fat and keeping the good stuff. Judging by the current (and incomplete) Death Knight trees, I&#8217;m hopeful. They&#8217;ve economized by getting rid of &#8220;bonus&#8221; filler like Improved Rune Tap and simply baking the Improved into the basic talent. So now for one point in Rune Tap you get an ability that heals you for 20% of your health with a 30 second cooldown. These changes are bound to have significant impact on what talents become popular. In the case of Rune Tap there has long been a division between players on whether it&#8217;s too expensive to be worthwhile or as I&#8217;ve always put it, &#8220;It&#8217;s a freaking heal pot on steroids you can use over and over in a single fight!&#8221; Now we have the super version for a single point AND it&#8217;s synergy with the newly reworked Will of the Necropolis which, when procced refreshes a Blood Rune and finishes the Cooldown on your Rune Tap. Add to this a mastery bonus that gives us damage absorption everytime we heal ourselves. All that together results in: if you don&#8217;t have Rune Tap and you&#8217;re a Blood Tank &#8211; you are doing it WRONG! One interesting thing to note is that some of your favorite and essential tanking talents are now baked into the tree, meaning that when you choose your primary tree you get access to those abilities immediately. What does Blood get? + Blood A dark guardian who manipulates and corrupts life energy to sustain himself/herself in the face of an enemy onslaught. » Veteran of the Third War (Currently a 3 Point Talent) » Death Rune Mastery (Currently a 3 Point Talent) » Heart Strike (Currently a 1 Point Talent) » Vengeance (Mastery) » Healing Absorption (Mastery) The Bear in the Room This does beg a question or two though, since we&#8217;re now forced to dedicate ourselves to a specific tree &#8211; why not give us Crit Immunity with the other abilities rather than spending 2 of our now much more valuable Talent points on Crit Immunity instead? Blame it on Druids, it wouldn&#8217;t make sense for Feral cats to have Crit Immunity, and it would probably end up being imbalanced. 		<description><![CDATA[Player0110101101101000011000010110000101110011 has come online RealID is here, and according to Blizzard reps it&#8217;s here to stay. There are of course many people who have a few misgivings with the service (myself included) but there&#8217;s also surely some people who just don&#8217;t want to hear about it and will consider any discussion of the topic to be whining, for those people, I recommend taking your own advice and opting out of the following post because it&#8217;s time for me to weigh in. The Beginning of RealID RealID isn&#8217;t new, the idea that you could stay connected with friends across servers or even across different games has been around for a while, programs like XFire keep you connected while letting you know what games your friends are playing. XFire also offers handy services like providing download mirrors for updates to your favorite games, custom game themed skins for the chat ui, streaming video service, even voice chat. So, it&#8217;s obvious that there are others who&#8217;ve done it, that have likely made some money with it. So, RealID has some real possibilities to make gamers and shareholders happy. Overall I would say that at this point I was fairly positive about the inclusion of RealID. RealID on Forums This week there was a new chapter added to the RealID situation, Blizzard announced that anyone posting on the official forums would have their actual first and last name posted on said forums. This is the dilemma, I think most players see this as an uncalled for invasion of privacy. There are of course some notable knee jerks to one extreme or another, but the core of the debate is that people don&#8217;t want their real names displayed, but want to continue to post on the forums &#8211; or at the very least want the option to do this as they see fit. Now, I don&#8217;t post on the Blizzard forums often myself and when I do it&#8217;s typically to update my guilds recruitment thread on the Bloodscalp forums. A large reason for this is that there is a bad noise to signal ratio on the forums as people have pointed out in various responses to the RealID situation. However, I also don&#8217;t post much on the forums because I can find better information (and easier) in other places: Elitist Jerks, Tankspot, and Pwnwear all offer the hard data I need in a palatable form. So really, the only use I have for the forums now and in the future is technical support (rare, but it happens), bug reports, and recruitment threads. The Good, The Bad, and the Fugly The Good News is that Blizzard is promising new features and I can stay connected with people who aren&#8217;t playing WOW on Bloodscalp. Which I readily admit is pretty handy. Unfortunately, I have a Facebook account, not of my own choosing however. 		<description><![CDATA[It&#8217;s Officially Summer And that brings with it a few things: first, as far as WOW is concerned, it means a massive influx of kids playing at all hours of the day. To the point, this morning I woke up at 5 AM and was able to get my weekly done on 3 characters, consecutively. Last week, I would&#8217;ve been hard pressed to get it finished on Khaas. This week however, there were multiple groups clamoring to finish. Hell, at 9 this morning there was an ICC 25 GDKP starting. This influx of activity is going to have some ramifications for me and my peers, but more on that in a minute. I have other things to talk about before I get to the gold report. Insanity As mentioned in my previous post, I&#8217;ve Lost My Mind. I finally completed the Insane in the Membrane achievement. After a little look around, it turns out I&#8217;m the only Death Knight on Bloodscalp with this title. Which is cool, but it has caused some interesting whispers, in the main people are wanting to know wtf it comes from, etc. Typical curiosity and little more, though I did get a couple of more &#8220;aggressive&#8221; messages, similar to when I first got Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros. On that note, I&#8217;ve gotten a nod from Saate who keeps a sort of &#8220;wall of fame&#8221; for those who&#8217;ve completed the achievement. Similarly, wowhead.com has my Insane in the Membrane screenshot posted for the achievement (screenshot #10). As I said earlier, I&#8217;ve had a fair amount of questioning about the achievement. People want to know how I accomplished it, and if I had any tips. So, here goes&#8230; First, if you&#8217;re serious about completing this achievement I would bookmark Saate.net, to the right of his blog he has links to guides for each of the factions necessary to complete the achievement. The guides themselves are thorough, and specific. As there are sometimes multiple approaches to a specific faction (the Goblins in particular) this thorough coverage is just what you need to make an informed decision about your own grind. There&#8217;s only one thing I would really add to the obvious and Saate&#8217;s guides, because it&#8217;s obvious that having alts is going to help and making friends may help even more. But one thing in particular, when doing the Ravenholdt grind you&#8217;ll be dealing with a lot of Heavy Junkboxes. Once you get around the problem of juggling massive quantities of Junkboxes you have to figure out how to manage these turn ins, which can in itself be a royal pain, but there is a way around the annoyance. The two macros below are just what the doctor ordered, first you right click the quest giver then click Macro 1 twice. This will accept and turn in the quest, then click Macro 2. This macro will delete the Dusktsteel Throwing Knives that will otherwise quickly clutter your bags. 		<description><![CDATA[I am thinking of making the weekend update a regular here, so I hope you guys enjoy. Before we get started, some RL news: First, Ronnie James Dio died Sunday (the 16th) of Stomach Cancer. Why you should care about this aging rocker? Well, Dio was responsible for the very metal tradition of &#8220;throwing horns&#8221;, yeah that guy. If you&#8217;ve ever done it, you might take a second of silence to give the guy his due. Aside from this however, Dio was an influential vocalist who&#8217;s worked with his own projects as well as the likes of Black Sabbath. But you probably know him better from a song that Killswitch Engage recently remade: In other news, I got sick. It&#8217;s allergy season and that&#8217;s always rough for me (at least when I&#8217;m here in the South). Anyhow, I got a bad case of upper respiratory infection which caused me no end of misery, in fact the coughing and vomiting got so bad that apparently I broke a rib. The doctor has me at home resting with an arm load of meds. What I&#8217;ve learned from this: Steroids shots itch like a bastard for days. In other news&#8230; GUILD.news Face on Fire is working on hard modes in ICC 25, we&#8217;ve gotten Marrowgar, Gunship, and Rotface down with more coming (I&#8217;m sure) next week. As Kauzmo wrote recently though, the end of expansion slump is unfortunately very real. I see it as a testament to the awesome that is Face on Fire that we&#8217;re still managing to knock out everything up to LK (including a few hards) in one night of raiding, it&#8217;s the second night that proves to be the problem however, Thursday for example we 23 manned Sindragosa&#8230; and not for the challenge, but because that&#8217;s all we had to work with. And so it comes to this dear friends, Face on Fire is recruiting. Specifically we&#8217;re looking for a Shadow Priest and a Hunter (all are welcome to apply however), available to raid Tuesday AND Thursday, from 6-10 server time. Transfers are of course welcome, applicants (especially transfers) should be prepared for a Vent interview. 		<description><![CDATA[The Remote Auction House In the continuing quest for more money, Acti-Blizzard has unveiled their latest &#8220;service&#8221; the Remote Auction House. This was announced some time ago, I&#8217;ve since been curiously anxious to find out more details as I&#8217;m sure most fellow Goblins have. What does it do? Well, the Remote AH is simply a service allowing players to access the AH via web browser. There&#8217;s even an app for the iPod already to allow you to post away while on the bus, in a meeting, or on a date&#8230; (I&#8217;m kidding, but I&#8217;m not) Of course, this type of service does come with nearly as many limitations as it does bonus features. And it&#8217;s notable that the service is subscription based ($2.99 USD per month). So what do you get for the extra money? But the more subtle advantage is that you&#8217;re able to get some items posted and collect gold without alerting competition to your presence (assuming they don&#8217;t have the service themselves). The best thing I can see using this for is sniping items on the AH I&#8217;m after, like those damned Librams for the Insane title, being able to check for them on my lunch break&#8230; that kinda thing. Unfortunately, the limitations of the service outweigh the possible benefits (to me). For starters, you can&#8217;t craft anything through this service, and AddOns don&#8217;t function through it either. So, do you really want to use your phone to manually list hundreds of glyphs? Of course, there are already people writing scripts and apps to mimic certain functionality from various popular AH AddOns. The concern here is, how long will it take before some new AH Ninja Bots arrive? It concerns me largely because AH Botting from a phone seems to be hard to police by it&#8217;s very nature....]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[Why Ebert is Wrong Recently I discovered a blog entry on one of my favorite sites in the universe, Cracked.com. It seems that the Word Puncher has taken issue with a comment by famous film critic Roger Ebert, in his article Brockway comes to the defense of video games (complete article). This reminded me of an opposing viewpoint I read in a PC gaming magazine after the release of Bioshock. I decided to weigh in, because it&#8217;s an issue very near and dear to my heart. If you are not already aware I once considered myself an artist, I have long ago lain aside that mantle. It has been years since I&#8217;ve painted, drawn, or any other such thing. Infact, the last thing I remember really doing before attending college and deciding to give up art utterly was a comic book that &#8220;almost&#8221; got published. (The Comic &#8211; PDF format) That was in 2004, and the company that was interested in publishing went belly up before the final cut of the comic&#8217;s first issue and just as I was already working on storyboards for the second. I have been published, I have attended classes as a design major, and for a time I was what some might call promising. In the end however, I realized it wasn&#8217;t for me so I moved on to study English with the hopes of becoming a professor. This has left me in an interesting position for this discussion since I&#8217;m obviously also an avid gamer. So now, you either consider me a credible source to discus the topic or you don&#8217;t. Either way now we can begin this discussion in earnest. What is Art? Art exists in various mediums: paintings, novels, films, music, etc. Interpreting art is in itself an imprecise and difficult enterprise. When dealing with such a nebulous concept as &#8220;art&#8221; I find that it&#8217;s not only helpful, but essential to begin with the dictionary. Meriam Webster defines the term in several ways (complete definition), the one most applicable for our discussion would be&#8230; 4a: the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects; also : works so produced b (1) : fine arts (2) : one of the fine arts (3) : a graphic art So we have the essence of art, that it&#8217;s an imaginative process of creation, or the works produced by that imaginative process. The difficult thing with art is that it is subjective and that it is absolutely not quantifiable. As any first year student of the humanities can tell you, if you think it&#8217;s not art simply because you do not like it, you are doing it wrong. 		<description><![CDATA[A couple of blog posts recently have started me thinking about the way we interact with people in Wold of Warcraft. Cozmo over at GTFOOTF posed an interesting question with his post on friends. Saate over at Saate.net made a post as well about maturity and the veritable mine field that is the common populous of WOW. Now, I&#8217;m sure there&#8217;s some Goblins out there that will immediately discount the concept of friendship; however, there are several reasons why you might reconsider. That&#8217;s What Friends are For Like it or not, WoW is a social game. When real life acquaintances have asked me &#8220;what is WOW?&#8221; I tend to explain it by saying it&#8217;s a chat room with a video game built around it. I believe it&#8217;s absolutely vital that we never forget that the game itself exists around this interaction via chat. Now, your level of involvement in that chat will of course vary, but without this interaction the game loses a lot of it&#8217;s depth (try playing on an underpopulated Emu server sometime and see how long you enjoy it). As Goblins we depend on other people, they&#8217;re the ones who buy our stuff. As a raider, they&#8217;re the ones who DPS the baddie, tank the boss, or heal you! And of course, if PVP is your thing&#8230; well, you kinda can&#8217;t PVP unless there&#8217;s other players. My point is that other people are essential to the process. Of course, it&#8217;s a mixed bag when you wade into the deep end with random people. Every Friend Was Once a Stranger There are interesting social issues when dealing with anonymous people in a virtual system like WOW, for one you can&#8217;t take them at face value. The male Orc Warrior might be an Asian Girl from South Dakota or a thirty something IT professional from Dallas (some guy). Chances are though, it&#8217;s a dude. So most of us assume it is until proven otherwise (some will never believe it&#8217;s a female). One of the more interesting things about interacting in a virtual system is that it&#8217;s a chance for the Id to run wild. I would posit that most of the time in games like WOW, it does. To put it in simpler terms, think of that legendary scene from Reservoir Dogs If You&#8217;re Wondering Who the Asshole is, it&#8217;s Probably You If you que up for a random dungeon you&#8217;ll be a sane person with four random people. They may be friendly geared players, but they&#8217;re just as likely to be horrible in nearly every way imaginable. The problem of anonymity is exacerbated by the LFG tool, because you&#8217;re grouping with people in your battle group, not necessarily your server. When a point of contention arises you have two or more people fighting and neither is willing to back down because they are (largely) anonymous and they &#8220;think&#8221; they&#8217;re right.
