Welcome to Idle Hands, my weekly segment where I discuss conversions, painting, and strategy for the Warhammer tabletop game…
THIS WEEK
This week there wasn’t a lot of time for Warhammer, the move is kicking into high gear so on the 1st I finished my last model before the move. Now, I’m in the process of packing and sorting everything in my office. My army is a particular logistical issue, as I only have one Sabol Designs Army case (The Motorpool) and I’ve got a lot more models assembled than will fit inside. Luckily, we’re only moving three blocks so I don’t foresee it being a huge problem.
THE BLOG
I’m adding several new features to SRS BUSINESS, you may have already noticed the blogroll to the right of the page. So far, I’ve only added a handful of the Warhamer blogs I’ve been frequenting lately. I plan to add more, within certain guidelines – blogs that have no posts for 3 months or more will be removed. They don’t have to be about Chaos necessarily, but they also do have to feature WHFB. Which means there are some fantastic WH40K blogs that just won’t be featured in the roll for now. If you have any suggestions for good blogs for the list let me know and I’ll be glad to check them out.
WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM
I’ve been holding off on showing the new house, since things weren’t official. But, now that we have a move in date I feel confidant about sharing some pics of the new place. The house is located about three blocks from our apartment and has several advantages over our current residence. For starters, it’s in easy walking distance to the post office. But more importantly – walls! Glorious walls!
I love my wife and I love being around her, but you really learn to appreciate privacy when you share a studio apartment with someone for a while. The new place has three bedrooms (one for Peanut, one for me and my wife, and a third windowless office). There’s also a large kitchen, a massive laundry room in the back of the house. A sizable living room and a single bathroom. In the back of the house is a 2 car garage that will be my domain.
I’ve got a window unit air conditioner already for the garage, it’s a big one so it should do fine keeping the space cool. I am however concerned about the insulation in there, because there is none. There are multiple noticeable gaps in the walls and the windows on the doors are busted. So, the garage needs a little bit of TLC before I can truly call it a man cave. Fortunately, the garage is the only place that needs any work. The house is completely remodeled inside: hardwood floors, new paint and drywall, new electric and phone lines, new fixtures, cabinets, the list goes on. In fact, when I checked the place out I had a hard time finding anything that wasn’t new.
The only thing missing is a refrigerator, so I talked the land lord into forgoing the deposit if we provided our own. A good deal for both of us, but a damned good deal for Brandy and I. I also did some wheeling and dealing with the land lord for our apartment, getting our deposit applied to our last months rent. So, if we leave the place clean we’ll only owe a fraction of our normal monthly rent. All of that means some much needed breathing room in terms of finances while we move.
And one last note before the big day, I’d like to thank my friends and family who’ve agreed to come help us out. With the baby on the way, I know there’s no way I could do this move without you. Love you all, and thank you so much.
Now, one last look at the models before I go…
WET PAINT
As mentioned earlier, I didn’t have time for much but I decided before I packed it all away I should finish my second Chariot. The last thing I wanted to do was lost one of the component pieces in the move. Here’s how the two chariots look currently, without their crew.

COMING SOON
Moving day is the 16th, so packing will consume my time between now and then. This will be my last update until we are settled at the new house, which may take a couple of weeks depending on how quickly the DSL is transferred. But, even if I don’t have reliable internet for a time I’ll certainly continue to work on the minis as soon as I am able. I have a Warshrine planned for my tourney list, once it’s finished all that will be left is painting the army. And once the army is finished? Then I can start working on some of the extra units and characters I’ve got laying around. So, once I’m back online expect some updates.
