Welcome to Idle Hands, my weekly segment where I discuss conversions, painting, and strategy for the Warhammer tabletop game…

THIS WEEK

Saturday is moving day, so as you read this my computer is already packed up. As I write this, it’s early Saturday morning and I’m sitting in the largely empty office area that I’ve occupied for the past year. It almost doesn’t feel real, I honestly thought we’d live here for several years – maybe even buy the building eventually. I’m not exactly disappointed, I love the house and as the renovations near completion I find I’m enamored more and more. We went by the place last night and ended up missing it entirely since they painted the house yesterday. Seeing the place makes me anxious to move in, so as I said it’s a weird feeling. A little sad to be leaving, a little anxious to go, and over all happy with the current state of affairs.

While I’ve been packing I’ve had plenty of time to think about future Warhammer projects, I’ve even nabbed a couple of good deals that should see some light in the coming weeks…

SRS Business Commission Service

Starting July 1st, I’ll be offering my new commissioned painting and conversion services. Rates will include discounts for bulk orders such as units or armies, all models will be provided magnetized with custom movement trays where applicable. I’ll also be offering Display Boards and Terrain. Of course, the big deal being the Super SRS Army Deal, an entire 2500 point army, painted and converted – including movement trays, display board, and Sabol Army Case. Everything you need to hit the tabletop running!

More details will be available soon so stay tuned!

TAKING STOCK

As mentioned earlier, I’ve made a couple of purchases. I’ve gotten several items that are going directly in my workshop: a new architect lamp, a desk, several paint racks to keep things tidy, etc. I’ve also grabbed some new models that I’ll be working on. I nabbed a box of OOP Chaos Warriors NIB, these will be converted into Forsaken along with some bits I’ve recently acquired. I’ve also gotten a ton of bits for conversions lately, I’ll be doing a Warshrine specifically for my tournament list and I’ve got most of the parts for it already.

The big news though is that I stumbled upon two great deals, one was for some classic Chaos characters: Harry the Hammer, Gamesday Heroes, Archaon on Foot, Kordell Shorgaar, etc. Basically, I got enough of these awesome looking Heroes with Hand Weapons and Shields to do my Chosen unit entirely out of Hero models. So, I’m seriously considering it. I think it would look undeniably, pant wettingly badass. But we’ll see how it goes. I’m not sure I’d use most of these guys otherwise with the possible exception of Archaon. Even then, I have him on horseback already and I can always get another of him on foot later if I decide I want him that way.

I also purchased about 1000 Rare Earth magnets $20, I’ll be using these to magnetize my entire Army, as well as add some weapon options to a couple of my units. Some models like my Tzeentch riders will also be able to switch off to infantry bases this way as well for different lists. I’ve already started working on a Tzeentch Lord that will be able to ride disk or on foot, but we’ll talk more about him later.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

The Empire of Man, with my Chaos Forces growing to the point where I’m literally running out of new units to work on for my army I decided it was time to dip my feet into something different. And it doesn’t get much more different from Warriors of Chaos than Empire. WOC has next to no shooting, Empire can literally go all in on ranged. WOC is slow, it’s an infantry based army with limited movement. Empire can field a competitive all Cavalry force if so inclined. Basically, if WOC can’t do Empire can. Empire even has Tanks and monstrous cavalry, so in general it’s completely different and looks like a lot of fun.

Last night I nabbed a deal for 2 Great Cannons, 30 Handgunners, and 50 Spearmen for $40. A good start to my Empire force. I will likely break up the Spearmen, Handgunners we’ll see. All of these are from 6th Edition which is fine by me, I want my Empire army to have Character. I’ll be using models from various times in the Empires history to achieve this, with plenty of the new stuff too of course. I’ll be converting the entire empire army to a Chaos theme, I’m thinking they will be the Forgotten of Sudenland with lots of fluff to tie them into the mysterious abdication of the Grand Baroness. But we’ll see how that turns out, I’ve got a lot of ideas about the army already so it should turn into a pretty solid force on it’s own without looking silly in the same room with my beloved Warriors of Chaos.

COMING SOON

I have to get the DSL switched over to the new house this week, but I can’t say how long that will take. I’ve waited this long on purpose to force myself to unpack and settle into the new place, rest assured however that once I am settled there will be a lot of cool new stuff coming out of SRS Business. As always, thanks for reading and see you soon!
