PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

DANCES WITH WORGEN
The big news, and probably where I should start is: I am no longer an Orc, last night I put in for a faction transfer. As of this morning Khaas is a Worgen Death Knight. I didn’t come to the decision lightly, but I’m convinced it was the right thing to do. And honestly, I feel better already. I’ve only managed to get online a bit today since the transfer but the change was immediately noticeable. I’ve joined Draconic Savant as a Trial member, most people would likely see the move from guild leader to applicant as a huge loss. I however, see it as a giant weight being lifted from my shoulders. But moreover, it’s a new opportunity.

BUT WHY?
I know some of my friends are wondering, and let me first say – it wasn’t anyone’s fault. Nobody pissed me off, it wasn’t like that. Face on Fire was created on December 11th, 2006. I’ve been a part of the guild since the beginning, before that even when we were all roommates talking about making a guild when we found something to replace EverQuest. The past few years have been a marvel, and I had more fun raiding in Wrath than I did in any game, ever. When Cataclysm was released I was excited, but excitement gave way to blahs. The magic was gone, and I could see no way to rekindle it short of starting anew.

The transition is sure to be an adjustment, but I’m excited about raiding again. And that’s worth the price of admission…

WHAT HAPPENS NOW?
I still care about Face on Fire, and I wish them all of the luck in the world. With Frostvein and I both having left this week, I know they will have some work to do. Exvanlane informed me that they were promoting Tornadofang (the ex guild leader of Knights of Valhala) to an Officers position this week, which I fully support. The officers had actually discussed this some time ago, we just wanted to give him some time to get to know the guild and all before promoting him. I know he will make a fit addition to their team.

As for me, I have a new guild to become acquainted with. Everyone has been friendly and supportive, tonight will be my first time raiding with the guild. Adding me to the team means the guild now has four tanks, one of each tanking class: Death Knight, Druid, Paladin, and Warrior. I’m close friends with the Warrior tank already, Aximand. So, we’ve been discussing what adding me is going to mean to the group. Obviously with so many tanks, some logistical juggling may be necessary to ensure everyone gets a turn at bat. But it gives the guild an excellent feeling of flexibility and relieves a lot of burden on the tanks. Additionally, I’ve got to get myself used to a different raiding schedule as well as reacquainting myself with a loot system I haven’t used in a while: Loot Council.

I’ll admit, I haven’t used Loot Council since EverQuest, but I’m not too concerned. The system is pretty straight forward, and the rules governing it are very simple. So, I don’t think it’ll be a problem. At any rate, I suspect I’ll be doing some posts about the Alliance side of things in the near future. And certainly having a few words to say about my new guild, so stay tuned.

    TRAITOR!!!!!!!!
    lol, haven’t been reading the blog for too long but I would never have seen this coming. I’ve considered a similar move to rekindle some of the magic wow once had. Running a guild is deffinitely a time sink and a large burden to carry. Congratulations on your move and best of luck with the alliance.

    Your deceit is unforgivable, Jin’do! I mean, Khaas!

    Never seen it coming.

    So now you’ve been there for a while, how’s 4 tanks working out? (did this in totC 25 and hated it – all 4 tanks were 90-100% attendance and it sucked a bit having to rotate)

    @Jomi
    It’s not a big deal really, one tank has been playing healer (on his alt) a lot since I came over, but even so I’ve been DPSing more than I’ve been tanking. I’ve done the tank every fight for years thing before, and it burns you out. Variety is the spice of life as they say :P

    Even so, this was the same arrangement we had in Face on Fire, and it worked similarly well. You just have to have a good group of tanks. And Draconic Savant does.

    I agree that tanking can get a bit samey if it’s all you do, and I also enjoyed dpsing (original main was a warlock like yourself, then went blood DK), but the thing with the too-many-tanks scenario we had though was that I always felt like I couldn’t do either role properly when we had 4 tanks – my DPS set wasn’t great, and with 4 tanks coming week in week out (plus a 5th at around 50% attendance) it seemed like tank loot was also being spread too thin.

    I guess it can work good though with the right guild (we were an ok guild on a low-progress server – guilds elsewhere had beaten Anub by the time we eventually got beasts) and that 5th semi-attending tank could have been the straw on the back with regards to loot distribution.
