DRAWN & QURTERED – Q2: 2013 – CHAOS DWARFS

Category: Announcements Comments: No comments

Welcome to Drawn & Quartered, a new segment where I review and discuss my plans on a quarterly basis…

INTRODUCTION AND GETTING ORGANIZED

The first quarter of 2013 was spent getting my final preparations in for the Shiloh Slaughter, which went better than expected at the end of January. The tournament however was the last opportunity to play with the previous edition of the Warriors of Chaos book, so it would also be the last time I got to play with that specific army. I have since sold almost the entire army to the organizer of the Shiloh Slaughter for his own Warriors army (which I imagine has grown fairly extensive). I’ve used the money from that and some commission work to build up new armies and my own Fortress of Solitude...

Welcome to Idle Hands, my weekly segment where I discuss conversions, painting, and strategy for the Warhammer tabletop game…

THE BLESSINGS OF NURGLE

The last significant post I made was almost a month ago when I was showing off my first finished unit of Ogres and some characters/unit filler I had made for my Warriors of Chaos. What have I been doing in the meantime? Quite a lot actually, that last post was made at the start of Spring Break. I was excited because it meant a week with my wife home. It turned into a miserable couple of weeks as everyone in the house was sick, even the baby. Now, it’s weeks later and we’re all back to normal. The end of the school year is rapidly approaching and I’ve started yet another army.

In fact, I’ve done a lot of plotting and planning with regards t...

BANG BANG, I AM THE WARRIOR

Welcome to Idle Hands, my weekly segment where I discuss conversions, painting, and strategy for the Warhammer tabletop game…

THIS WEEK

It’s Spring Break, that means my wife is home for the week. Home life is good, my son is now five months old and growing more independent. Also, with Spring Break here I can finally get outside and start thinking about summer. With that said, I’ll be turning my attention back to my armies in earnest. My goal is to get 1-2 units finished per week. There will be a fair amount of back and forth between the Warriors and Ogres, as I’d like to get them both painted up pretty quickly. And after this week, I’ve got only a few models left for the Warriors to be finished – so I’m feeling good about that.

THIS WEEK

I’ve been all over the place this week, both literally and figuratively. An old friend died over the weekend, so I spent the early part of last week out of town to attend the funeral. I got home and slowly got back to work, in the past two weeks I spent a little time on all three of my armies. It’s about time to focus though, I need to get an army in fighting shape, it’s just a question of which one. We’ll see where the dice land…

As stated earlier, I did take my first shambling steps with the Vampire Counts army...

Welcome to Idle Hands, my weekly segment where I discuss conversions, painting, and strategy for the Warhammer tabletop game…

THIS WEEK

I’ve spent the past couple of weeks coming to grips with the new Warriors of Chaos army book, I’ll admit it’s definitely taken away from my time working on actual models. I’ve gone through roughly 10-15 different iterations of my main list, but I’ve narrowed things down to a point where I feel pretty confident in my army. Meanwhile, I’ve gotten a little work done on my Ogres, and I’ve just about got everything I want/need for my Warriors and Vampires, with such low model counts in the Ogre and Chaos armies I suspect I’ll be working on the Vampires before too terribly long.

Meanwhile, I’m trying to get my office back in order...

Welcome to Idle Hands, my weekly segment where I discuss conversions, painting, and strategy for the Warhammer tabletop game…

THIS WEEK

It’s time for something completely different, well mostly different. As I said last week, I’ve got a lot planned this year, and to start I want to get my Ogre army off the ground. This week, I spent a lot of time cleaning pieces and assembling units for my 2500pt list. Getting to grips with these has raised a few questions though, and I’m in the process of resolving the issues that have arisen (Mournfangs and Sabretusks in particular). But first, let’s take a second look at the list itself…

This is an MSU style list, there are 11 drops so deployment will actually be in my favor most of the time...

THE KILLING FIELD

Category: GamesWarhammer Comments: No comments

It has been several weeks since my last update, I have been preparing for the Shiloh Slaughter. This weekend I and all of my preparations were put to the test, so how did it go?

PREFACE

There are a few things I would like to get out of the way before we get into the meat of this thing, for starters this will be a somewhat abridged review of the weekend in general. I do have notes that I will be using to write up Battle Reports from my five games, but that will be later. Those will likely be presented individually as I intend to go into them in some detail. Additionally, I’d like to thank Brian Preece of T Shirt Explosion and the volunteers that worked so hard to make this a great weekend. And last, but certainly not least – I’d like to thank my opponents...

THIS WEEK

To say life has been interesting in recent weeks would be a massive understatement, my son was born as I mentioned last week. Both he and my wife are both still at the hospital, he was a month early so an extended stay wasn’t exactly a surprise. Eventually, things settled into a routine and it was apparent that my wife would be staying and that I was going to go back home. I’d like to mention also, my son is doing quite well. They’ve taken him off of the IV, he’s eating well and improving daily. He’s off of phototherapy and digesting fine on his own, he’s shaping up to come home before long, and I’ll be happy to have him and his mom here finally.

While ...
