THE TRIBE OF THE FOUR WINDS

Welcome to Idle Hands, my weekly segment where I discuss conversions, painting, and strategy for the Warhammer tabletop game…

THIS WEEK

It’s time for something completely different, well mostly different. As I said last week, I’ve got a lot planned this year, and to start I want to get my Ogre army off the ground. This week, I spent a lot of time cleaning pieces and assembling units for my 2500pt list. Getting to grips with these has raised a few questions though, and I’m in the process of resolving the issues that have arisen (Mournfangs and Sabretusks in particular). But first, let’s take a second look at the list itself…

THE LIST

This is an MSU style list, there are 11 drops so deployment will actually be in my favor most of the time. With the higher base movement of the Ogres, and the generally high number of wounds the list has a lot to offer. Lore of Heavens is an all star here, especially Comet as it helps direct traffic. All in all a brutal list when played properly.

2500 pts, 59 models, 11 units.

Slaughtermaster (Great Weapon, Level 4, General)
+ Lore of the Heavens
Talisman of Preservation
Ironcurse Icon

Bruiser (Great Weapon, Heavy Armor, Battle Standard Bearer)
+ Lookout Gnoblar
Rune Maw

+ Lore of the Great Maw
Dispel Scroll

9 Ironguts (Mus, Std)
+ Lookout Gnoblar

Though this will be my regular Ogre list, I also have a variety of other units/models I’ll be putting together later for fun. I will also be magnetizing the riders of the Mournfang unit to make them a little easier to transport, and also so I can switch them out for different weapon and command options. Because sometimes you want two small units, sometimes you want a 4 pack with Dragon banner. Sometimes you even want great weapons, also I have like 5 spare riders so I may as well use them.

MALEVOLENT CREATIONS

This week I spent a fair amount of time just getting the Ogres together, with the parts sorted I just had a little cleaning and assembly to do. I ended up with about 30 resin Ogre bodies, I decided to use these up first so they make up the bulk of my existing force. I like the hollow bellied ones better for certain conversions (Ogre Zombies, etc). Here’s a pic of the army as it currently stands.

The entire army fits on my old Battle Foam X Board, I’ll be doing some pretty heavy landscaping on the thing in the near future. I’ve already sketched some ideas, so it should actually start taking shape fairly soon. The army itself is tainted by the forces of Chaos rolling through the hills at the edge of the Troll Country where the Tribe makes it’s home.

The call of the four winds grows stronger everyday, bringing new members to the tribe. The newest bare no mutations yet, but the ogres don’t seem to mind. For often the gifts of chaos aid them in their pursuits.

COMING SOON

I’ve got pretty much everything I need to get the army on the tabletop soon, I want to get some games in. With the new Chaos release, I’m anxious to get back to the Northmen. But with such a small model count the Ogres are coming together quickly, expect them to see some paint very soon.
