A Year of Change…
MISSED OPPORTUNITY
Ten years ago I started blogging, and three years ago on June 2nd I started SRS Business. This year, things were hectic to say the least and I missed the chance to celebrate the anniversary properly. A lot has happened in the past year, and the new year is shaping up to be just as big. So what have I been up to?
LAST YEAR
The first change? I quit World of Warcraft. I quit all Blizzard games, and I haven’t picked up a new MMO. I don’t even have my account anymore, I let a hunter friend from my guild take it over. So, I’m out the only way you can ever really get out by getting rid of the account entirely. I changed the name of the guild from Face on Fire to Devastation, I groomed my replacement (Superskrull) who has been instrumental in bringing the guild from the ashes back to the top of the progression heap. They’re even the #1 guild for PVP on Bloodscalp (top 1000 world wide!)
Another change, around Christmas my wife got me back into Warhammer and I’ve loved every minute of it. I went to my first tournament, made some good friends in the local gaming community.
Then of course, my wife and I celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary.
But of course, the biggest change? I found out I’m going to be a father. I started calling the baby Peanut early on, because I refuse to refer to a child as an “it” simply because there’s no good gender neutral pronoun. Then we learned that little Peanut is a boy, and he will be named after me. The baby carries all manner of responsibilities and concerns, he’s growing fast and strong. So, we needed a house. Much as we loved out studio apartment downtown, it was impractical (if not dangerous) to live in such a space with a newborn. So, we moved around the time of the anniversary of this blog. Which gives you a rough idea of why I forgot in the shuffle to celebrate the anniversary in the first place.
THIS YEAR
Peanut is scheduled for November 19th, a week and a day after my own birthday. But, we just hit the third trimester and he’s measuring a week ahead of schedule already (2 lbs 8 oz). In my family, the babies tend toward the large side. So of course, I worry about my wife. It’s our first, and she is a small woman…
So obviously a baby is going to be the biggest change in our lives this year, I’ve decided to stay home with Peanut until Pre School. After that, I’ll be going back to school to finish my degree so I can start teaching full time.
Also coming up this year, I’m planning for a local Warhammer tournament at the end of January. I’ll be talking in much more depth about this soon, as my plans are quite extensive. I’ve been looking forward to this for a while, and I’ll have plenty of coverage the day of the event.
THE BLOG
I haven’t made any sweeping changes to the look of the blog this year, and I don’t have any planned. I am adding more features, more content. But more over, now I feel passionate about writing again. So, I expect a return to a more prolific volume of writing akin to what I did in the days of Wrath. Only now my focus is on Warhammer, so you can expect Battle Reports, gaming theory, painting tutorials, etc. I’m excited to be blogging again, it’s been a while…
